How to Choose the Right Wattage

As a rough guide for 5000K fixtures at 130-170 lm/W: ceilings under 20ft typically need 100-150W UFO high bays; 20-30ft ceilings call for 150-240W; and 30ft+ or high-storage-density racking usually needs 240-500W linear high bays for better beam control down narrow aisles. Linear high bays throw a more directional beam than round UFOs, which makes them the better choice for aisle lighting in racked warehouses, while UFOs suit open-floor manufacturing and distribution space.

How many lumens per square foot does a warehouse need? Most general warehouse space targets 20-30 foot-candles at floor level, while detailed picking or QC areas often call for 40-50 foot-candles — talk to us with your ceiling height and layout and we can help match wattage to target.

Can I mix UFO and linear high bays in the same building? Yes — many of our customers use linear high bays down racked aisles and UFOs in open staging or shipping areas within the same facility.
