Alberta's oil & gas, chemical processing, and refining sectors run on hazardous-location lighting that has to survive both the classification requirements and the physical environment. This collection covers Class I Division 1 and Division 2 explosion-proof LED high bays and linear fixtures — one of the deepest hazardous-location catalogs available from a Western Canada distributor.
Division 1 locations have ignitable concentrations of gas or vapor present continuously or intermittently under normal operating conditions — think inside a process vessel enclosure or near a constantly-venting source. Division 2 locations only have ignitable concentrations present under abnormal conditions, like equipment failure or ventilation loss — the far more common classification for general plant areas, warehouses adjacent to process areas, and paint booths. Getting the division wrong isn't a minor spec error; it's a safety and code compliance issue, so confirm your area classification with your facility's engineering documentation before ordering.
Every fixture is rated Class I, Division 1 or 2, Groups A/B/C/D, with 100-277V and 200-480V input options and L70 lifespans of 150,000+ hours. Round high bay and linear formats are available, with anti-glare lens and standard lens options depending on visual comfort needs in occupied areas.
What's the difference between Class I Division 1 and Division 2 fixtures — can I use a Division 1 fixture in a Division 2 space? Yes, Division 1-rated fixtures meet or exceed Division 2 requirements, so they can always be used in a Division 2 space (at a cost premium) — but a Division 2 fixture cannot be substituted into a Division 1 location.
Do explosion-proof fixtures cost more than standard high bays? Yes, significantly — the certified enclosure, wiring methods, and testing behind Class I rated fixtures add real cost. As a Western Canada distributor with direct oil & gas sector relationships, we work to keep this category competitively priced for both new-build and turnaround/retrofit projects.
